On the memorable places of the Tizengauz.

Description

Anthony Tizengauz is one of the most prominent figures in the history of Belarus of the 18th century, an enlightened reformer and philanthropist, whose projects radically transformed the face of Grodno and left a deep mark on the culture of the entire region.

His large-scale activities were aimed at the economic and cultural development of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The legacy of Tizengauz is most clearly evident in the Grodno district of Gorodnitsa, which, on his initiative, was transformed into an advanced industrial and administrative center.

Here, under the guidance of invited European architects such as Giuseppe de Sacco, a whole ensemble of buildings has grown up: from manufactories and apartment buildings for craftsmen to administrative residences and unique cultural sites. It was Tizengauz who founded the first professional theater in Grodno (today the puppet theater), the medical academy and the botanical Gilibert garden.

The memory of the outstanding reformer is preserved not only by Grodno monuments, but also by places associated with his family throughout Belarus.

The Tizengauz family palace is located in Postavy, where the museum now operates, and in the village of Zheludok, the ashes of Anthony himself rest in the family tomb.

His estate in Karolino, near Grodno, has now become an agricultural estate where you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the era.

Thus, following the route connected with the Tizengauz, you can not just explore the disparate sights, but travel to places where the grandiose educational program of one of the most influential and progressive figures of his time was implemented.
