On the memorable places of the Gasthold family.

Description

For true connoisseurs of the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, a trip to the memorable places associated with the Gasthold family will be an immersion in the era of the power and influence of this noble dynasty.

The Gastholds, whose possessions extended over a significant part of modern Belarus, left behind a rich architectural and cultural heritage.

The starting point of the route naturally becomes Geranyony, where the main ancestral residence was located — a powerful castle built in the XV century. Its walls, which remember the Chancellor of Grand Duchy of Lithuania Albrecht Gasthold, witnessed major government decisions and visits by notable people such as Barbara Radziwill. The fateful wedding of Stanislav Gashtold and Barbara took place here, in the St. Nicholas Church founded by Albrecht.

The spiritual center, founded by another prominent representative of the family, the Vilno voivode Martin Gashtold, is the church in Trokeli.

And in Traby, which flourished under Albrecht Gasthold and even briefly became a royal residence, the wooden church of Saints Peter and Paul has been preserved — an architectural monument reminiscent of the former greatness of the estate.

Chancellor Albrecht Gashtold, who acted as a patron of the arts, should also be thanked for the appearance of the first temples in the 16th century.

Even far from the main possessions, in Dzerzhinsk, the history of the family is reflected in the name "Gashtold Mountain" — the place where the Calvinist cathedral was located, built with their participation.

The trip should be completed at the Ostrovets Historical and Ethnographic Museum, where an entire hall is dedicated to the Gastholds.

Here, through family coats of arms, portraits and a family tree, one can trace the entire path of this powerful family, whose influence has determined the fate of the region for centuries.

This tour is a unique opportunity to follow in the footsteps of one of the brightest dynasties in the history of Belarus
