On the memorable places of the Chechot family.
Description
Discover Belarus through the prism of the heritage of the famous Chechot family.
This route will take you through memorable places closely connected with the life and work of poet and folklorist Jan Chechot and his family, who left a deep mark on the cultural history of the country.
In Podorosk you will see a classical palace, which has become a real cultural nest under the Chechots.
In Krivoshin, in the shady park of the Pototsky estate "Repikhovo", where his father served as the governor, a memorial boulder was erected in his honor.
In the village of Novaya Mysh, you will be greeted by the elegant Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, one of the most beautiful churches in Belarus. There is a monument to Yanka Chechot himself next to it.
In Zadveya, you will be amazed by the Neo-Gothic ice house, a legacy of the Mezheevsky-Chechot era, and in Ostashino, a restored ancestral mansion.
And in the town of Karchyovo there is the famous Filaret Stone — a living testimony of the poet's youthful aspirations. Here, in the 1820s, he, along with Adam Mickiewicz and other like-minded people, participated in secret meetings, read poetry and sang patriotic songs.
A special mood awaits you in the Grodno region.
In Voroncha, you will visit St. Anna's Church, where little Jan was baptized, and the old Catholic cemetery, an open-air "eternal museum" where his father rests.
In Novogrudok you will see the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, where Chechot received his education.
A visit to the Korelichi Museum of Local Lore, where a separate exhibition is dedicated to his legacy, will complete the immersion in his work.
The route also includes the picturesque Lake Svityaz, sung by the poet in the poem of the same name.
This tour is a unique chance to follow in the footsteps of the classic and touch the rich historical and cultural heritage of Belarus.
