Description
Eliza Ozheshko (1841-1910) was a famous Polish writer associated with Belarus.
She lived in Grodno, where she created many of her works reflecting the life of the Belarusian people.
Her work, for example, the novel "Over the Neman", is imbued with love for the Belarusian nature and culture.
Ozheshko supported education and helped local residents.
Her life is closely connected with Belarus: she was born in the Milkovshchina estate near Grodno, and after her husband's exile for participating in the 1863 uprising, she settled in Grodno, where she wrote her main works.
Today, her house museum has been preserved in Grodno, and her memory is honored as part of the cultural heritage of Belarus.

✔ In her novel "Over the Neman" (1888), Ozheshko vividly described the way of life and traditions of Belarusian peasants.
✔ She supported education: she opened schools and helped the poor, for which she was called the "mother of orphans."
