Lake Vitebsk region: from the Braslav hills to the northern marshes.

Description

Vitebsk region is one of the most watery regions of Belarus, where lakes form their own worlds: from glacial basins in the north to quiet forest reservoirs in the depths of the region. The route unites eleven lakes, each of which reveals its own character and shows how diverse aquatic Belarus can be.

The journey begins among the hills and ridges near lakes Nedrovo and the round "God's Eye". The first meets with three islands and panoramas from the Maskovichi settlement, the second impresses with its perfectly flat shape and steep shores, which make the lake seem like a huge eye among the hills. Then the path leads to the wide expanses of Osveya Lake with its northern severity, a large island and rich avifauna.

A little to the south lies Lisno with high cliffs and panoramas of Krasnoborskaya Pushcha, and then Beloe‑Yukhovskoe - one of the cleanest lake in the region.

Lake Mezhevo holds a secret, visible only from a height. Two boots in the middle of the water - one island, the other peninsula. You look at the northern nature, and you see the outlines of Italy.

After that, the route goes into the forests: Neshcherdo is greeted by dozens of bays and coves, and Voloba is surrounded by nine islets and sandy shallow waters, convenient for short stops and water walks.

Further on, Vedeto opens, a remote forest lake with a rugged coastline and marshlands, where silence and solitude reign. Next is the Dolgoe, deepest lake in Belarus, stretched out among the hills and resembling a northern fjord with its clear water and steep slopes.

The journey ends with an Priest's island with a modern recreation area, and a small forest lake Nekoloch with clear water and a calm atmosphere. And also the heart island on Lake Usaya!

The route reveals Vitebsk region as a region of rare natural diversity, where glacial landforms, northern reaches, forest lakes, swamps and islands are adjacent, and the mood of the trip varies from harsh silence to cozy forest coves.
