Glubokoe: a picturesque town with a rich history.
Description
Glubokoe is a small but charming city surrounded by lakes, where valuable architectural monuments and interesting historical sites have been preserved.
We will visit the Memorial complex "Borok", dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Second World War.
From afar, we can see the complex of buildings of the Basilian monastery (currently a penal colony).
We will go on an excursion to the Glubokoe Historical and Ethnographic Museum. It is located in a building from the beginning of the 20th century and introduces the history and ethnography of the Hinterland.
We will visit the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin. These two temples, standing opposite each other, form a unique architectural ensemble of the city in the style of the Vilna Baroque.
Let's walk along the alley of famous countrymen: there are bronze busts of famous personalities associated with the Province.
We will visit the Koptevka cemetery. There is a 19th-century Catholic chapel of St. Elijah and a memorial column in honor of the adoption of the constitution of 1791. You can also see the tombstones of Ferdinand and Wilhelmina von Munchausen in the cemetery. After that, we will approach the monument to Baron Munchausen, erected in the city in honor of the 600th anniversary of Glubokoe.
On Lenin and Moskovskaya streets, we will study fragments of historical buildings, including "kamyanitsy" – two–storey houses of the XIX-XX centuries.
Wooden buildings in the Zakopane style have been preserved on Komsomolskaya and Volnaya streets.
We will take a walk through the arboretum garden, a natural monument of national significance, where about 550 plant species are collected.
We will admire the picturesque Kagalnoe lake with an equipped embankment where you can walk, go boating and catamarans.
