A small Mstislavl with a long history.

Description

Mstislavl is one of the oldest cities in Belarus. It is often compared to Suzdal or little Vilnius. Its history begins in ancient times on Devichya Gora (Maiden Mountain). Archaeological finds indicate the existence of a settlement here as early as the 1st century BC, and a fortified settlement appeared around the 12th century. The first chronicle mention of the city dates back to 1156 and is contained in the Ipatiev Chronicle.

Modern Mstislavl is a city that combines modernity, unique historical monuments and a special atmosphere. Ancient buildings have been preserved here, and archaeological excavations are continuing, bringing new discoveries. The city invites its guests to stroll through the ancient streets and immerse themselves in its unique atmosphere.

Mstislavl is known for its historical sites. One of the most famous is Castle Hill, the former brainchild of the ancient city where the castle-fortress was located. Despite the fact that the original buildings have not been preserved, Castle Hill has become a popular tourist destination, where a knight's festival is held annually.

There is also a natural monument here, which is the Kagalny well, which is protected by the state as a hydrological object.

The city has preserved historical buildings of the 19th century, such as the building of the zemstvo council, the county school, the men's gymnasium, the treasury, the Fire station, creating the atmosphere of that era. Mstislavl is also decorated with statues of knights and Peter Mstislavets.

Mstislavl stands out for its many temples, including the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the Carmelite Church, the Church of the Mystical Icon of the Mother of God and the Transfiguration Church, each of which has its own unique history and architectural value.

The Mstislavl Regional Historical and Archaeological Museum presents to its guests exhibits found during excavations, household items from past centuries.
