Kletsk was first mentioned in written sources in 1127: at that time, Kletsk was the center of the appanage principality.

In the 14th century, the Principality of Kletsk became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and in 1401, Prince Vytautas transferred the city to Sigismund Keystutovich.

In 1503, the town of Kletsk was burned by the Crimean Tatars, and in the summer of 1506, Grand Duke Alexander sent an army led by Prince Mikhail Glinsky and the army of the Crimean Tatars was defeated near Kletsk.

In 1559, Kletsk was granted a privilege by Grand Duke Sigismund Augustus to hold regular fairs.

After the second partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1793, Kletsk became part of the Russian Empire.

Later, the city was briefly under the Polish state, and then as part of the BSSR.

Today it is a small regional center of the modern Republic of Belarus, rich in its historical and cultural attractions.
