Description
The famous Brest Fortress has become synonymous with unbroken spirit and fortitude.
The elite forces of the Wehrmacht were forced to spend 8 full days on its capture instead of the planned 8 hours.
Brest Fortress is one of those places that should be visited in Belarus, and the largest, but by no means the only tourist attraction in the city of Brest. After the war, the fortress was not fully restored. A memorial complex was created on its territory in 1969-71 to commemorate the feat of the defenders.
The central entrance to the fortress is impressive: a huge five-pointed star carved into a monolithic concrete block. Visitors are immediately immersed in the heavy atmosphere of the first day of the war: Levitan's voice is heard announcing the attack, explosions and the hum of airplanes are heard.
Also on the territory there is a unique archaeological museum "Berestye", where you can see the excavation of a medieval town of the 11th-13th centuries. It is from here that the modern city of Brest originated.
